➡ Drake is suing Universal Music Group (UMG), claiming they manipulated a rap feud between him and Kendrick Lamar to devalue his reputation and increase Kendrick’s popularity. He alleges that UMG used tactics like inflating song views and paying influencers to promote Kendrick’s music. Drake also suggests that Kendrick’s new contract with UMG included a clause about the feud. The lawsuit has sparked controversy and discussions about the music industry’s alleged manipulation of artist reputations and public opinion.
➡ R Kelly, a famous singer, was protected by his record labels despite his wrongdoings with underage girls because he was making them a lot of money. However, when public pressure grew due to the Me Too movement, the labels dropped him and he was arrested. The labels are accused of knowing about and covering up similar actions by other artists like Michael and Drake. The author believes that these labels, which he sees as harmful and manipulative, need to be exposed.

As Drake now claims this beef he was baited into was a trap orchestrated by the record labels, claiming that UMG, the most powerful record label in the world, rigged the beef in Kendrick’s favor, all in order to dethrone Drake and reduce his value before his record contract renegotiation took place. Drake has now started a war with the most powerful people in the music industry. The very same war Michael Jackson raged against Sony Records shortly before he died mysteriously. Now it appears they might Michael Jackson Drake. Hey guys, I hope all is well.
Welcome back to The Truth Is, where I drop new videos exposing the truth weekly. In today’s episode we will be talking about Drake’s lawsuit against UMG. Let’s get right into it. Right now Drake is raging a public war against the biggest record label in the world. It See, back in the 2000s the biggest artist in the world was Michael Jackson, and he made a similar decision as Drake. He called out his label for purposely trying to sabotage his career and reputation in order to force him to sell over his ATV music catalog.
Michael had spent millions creating his album Invincible, but when it came out it failed to achieve the success he had expected. Michael was extremely upset about this. He ended up blaming Sony Records for his album failing. Michael Jackson claimed that Sony sabotaged his album Invincible after the label abruptly ended promotion and marketing for the project months after it was released. He accused Sony Music CEO Tommy Mottola of being a racist and a devil suggesting the company was trying to force him to give up his stake in the Sony ATV music catalog by making his album underperform and leaving him in debt.
Michael owned a part of Sony ATV that was worth hundreds of millions. Sony wanted him to sell it to them but Michael refused. This angered the label and they came up with a plan to destroy him. They knew Michael needed money and would sell ATV if he had the right push, so they made sure his album Invincible did bad. Michael needed the album to make him money as he was low on cash. This was around the time he was dealing with several lawsuits that had depleted his pockets of millions. He was relying on the sales of this album to make some money.
When the label sabotaged the marketing for the album, his album undersold and he didn’t recoup the label’s money, meaning that Michael wouldn’t make any money from the album. This was the label trying to force Michael to sell his ATV catalog, but Michael wouldn’t budge. Instead, he started an all-out war with Sony and started calling them out publicly. I really want you to hear what I have to say. The tradition of great performers from Sammy Davis Jr. to James Brown to Jackie Wilson to Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly. The story is usually insane though. These guys work really hard at their craft, but the story ends the same because the companies take advantage of them, they really do.
Sony, being the artist that I am at Sony, I’ve generated several billion dollars for Sony, several billion. They really thought that my mind is always on music and dancing, and it usually is, but they never thought that this performer, myself, would outthink them. So I’m leaving Sony, a free agent, of owning half of Sony. I own half of Sony’s and I’m leaving them and they’re very angry at me because of it, but I just did good business. The way they get revenge is to try and destroy my album, but I’ve always said, you know, good art never dies.
Thank you. I love Unbreakable. And Tommy Mottola is a devil. I’m not supposed to say what I’m going to say right now, but I have to let you in on a secret. Please don’t videotape what I’m going to say, okay? Turn that off, please. Know what? Know what? I don’t mind. Tape it. This didn’t work out for Maiku though. In fact, this was the beginning of the end of him, as just a few short years later he died. Worst part of it all is that after his death, Maiku’s family sold the ATV catalog to Sony over Maiku’s dead body.
There’s a lot of similarities between the Maiku Jackson and Sony beef and the Drake and UMG beef. Maiku was the king of pop, and Drake was the king of hip hop. Both of them were set up by their labels in order to take advantage of them. Both of them were accused of participating in inappropriate activities with people that were underage. Both of them called out the labels and even sued their labels. The only difference is is that Maiku died behind his war with the label. Now the question is, will Drake face the same fate? I believe the labels are trying to Maiku Jackson Drake.
Ever since the media announced Drake was suing his record label, there has been a lot of discussion behind this. On one hand, people think it’s ridiculous that Drake is suing his label because he lost a beef, but on the other hand, people are rallying behind Drake because they agree with him exposing his record label for trying to take advantage of him. Either way you see it, I’m here to tell you that in a way, both sides are right. Drake is only suing UMG because of this beef, but he is also exposing them for setting this beef up in the first place.
I was probably the first person to say this entire beef was fake beef orchestrated by the record labels. On April 16, 2024, I made this video where I broke down why I knew this beef was orchestrated by the record labels to fabricate it themselves. This beef between Drake and Kendrick is 100% staged, a last ditch desperate effort to save hip hop before it’s too late. Everything about this beef lets you know it’s fake from beginning to end. When I dropped this video, many people were accusing me of being a Drake fan, even though I have made several videos exposing Drake for the exact thing Kendrick Lamar called the mob for.
People also accused me of not knowing what I was talking about, with several people saying that not everything is a conspiracy. But now, thankfully, the truth is coming out, and what I was saying back then should make more sense to people. This beef was clearly staged from the beginning, while back then I thought Drake was also involved in setting this fake beef up. Now it seems that Drake didn’t know, because this was designed with the goal of destroying his reputation. Most people simply won’t understand why this is a fake beef. That’s exactly what the record labels are hoping takes place.
They want the fans to say Drake is just bitter, and that there’s nothing there. But here’s an oversimplified explanation to all of this. UMG wanted Drake to re-sign to their label, but didn’t want to pay Drake what he was asking for. It was rumored that Drake wanted up to 600 million dollars, but UMG wanted to give him a lot less. The only problem is, they knew Drake wasn’t going to agree to re-sign for less money than his last deal. They also knew that Drake was a massive star that all other labels would’ve paid top dollar to have him on their roster.
They knew that if they told Drake no, they wouldn’t give him all that money. He would just leave to another label, or even worse, go independent. So they came up with this beef that was truly an ultimate solution to their problem. This beef was actually a genius plan by the labels, and I’ll tell you why. See, UMG is actually the label that both Kendrick and Drake are signed to. In fact, Kendrick signed a new deal with UMG, days before he released his Euphoria diss track. We will get more into that later though.
Since UMG owned both of these artists, they made tons of money from the beef off the top, as they’re getting royalties on both Drake records and Kendrick’s records. But when you look even deeper, things become even more sinister. Since the label wanted to sign Drake for a lesser amount than he wanted, UMG knew that if Drake had taken a serious hit to his reputation before the negotiation, he wouldn’t be in a good place to demand that big of a deal. So they orchestrated this beef that was rig sense to start to embarrass Drake and destroy his reputation.
The beef did just that, as Kendrick called Drake a PDF foul and ruined his reputation. This is the genius level thinking right here. They knew that once Kendrick won the beef, not only would Drake lose his value, but Kendrick would increase in value. As now, Kendrick would be seen as the new king of hip hop, which would only make them more money because they just signed a new deal with Kendrick. This is exactly what happened when Kendrick dropped his album and oversold. They literally used Kendrick to steal Drake’s value, giving it to Kendrick.
If Drake now chooses to decline UMG’s offer, they know other labels won’t offer much now either. Because Kendrick just ruined Drake’s reputation and he seems like a liability now. This is why he is suing UMG because he claims they rigged the beef to make him lose. You may be saying how if Kendrick made a hit this song, also telling yourself people just like his song better. Again, that’s what the labels want you to think. This is seriously much deeper than most people can understand because it’s music industry talk. According to Drake, UMG controlled the perspective of the beef.
He claimed the label paid for bots to make the song Not Like Us look like it’s performing better than it did by inflating the numbers. Most fans are simply followers that like whatever other people like. If they see something with a lot of views, it might influence them to like it too. Drake also accused the labels of paying influencers to make videos to the Not Like Us song, again influencing fans to like the songs. Labels know that influencers could shape the narrative, so paying influencers to make videos about the song on TikTok having them do dances to it is only going to make the song appear bigger and like more people like it.
Drake also claims that the streaming platforms like Spotify and Tidal were incentivized to allow botting on Kendrick’s song and to be placed on all the top playlists. Drake also claims they failed to market his songs in the same way, allowing Kendrick to have the unfair advantage and appear like the winner just off the numbers alone. Then with all the influencers and media personalities hyping up the song, they made sure to make Not Like Us appear like the bigger song. Trust me, this is how music works. A lot of the hype behind people’s favorite songs are all orchestrated.
The labels have to give the songs a push to get people to be interested. Drake now claims in the lawsuit that Kendrick’s new deal with UMG specifically added that Kendrick would beef with Drake. This is why Kendrick didn’t respond to Drake for several days after Drake officially kicked off the beef. The YouTuber What’s The Dirt did a great job breaking down this secret record deal Kendrick had with UMG before the beef kicked off. Take a listen to what he had to say. Anyways, on March 12th, all these changes take place. Janik and Lippmann are now the kings of their respective coast.
And what do you know, 10 days later, Kendrick fires his shot on the like that record. When it comes to Kendrick Lamar, he is one of John Janik’s biggest stars on Interscope dating back as far as Good Kid Mad City. In fact, all of Kendrick’s albums were released under Janik and he was heavily involved in Kendrick’s career. In the case of Drake, he was on the other side with Republic. Not only was he one of the main reasons for over a decade and why Janik struggled to clinch the number one spot, but Drake’s contract was coming to an end and the writing was on the wall that he might be leaving.
For that reason, tensions were likely already pretty high between Monty Lippmann and Drake. And these were the ingredients that came together? That made for a perfect storm. Kendrick closed out his deal with TDE and Aftermath Interscope two years prior with Mr. Morale being his last project. It was from that point forward where Kendrick was considered 100% independent under his own label, P.G. Lang. It really seems like the like that verse from Kendrick, that was an independent release. However, all that was about to change as Drake took the bait dropping pushups on April 13th and Taylor made on April 19th.
And for some unknown reason, Kendrick, the guy that can allegedly whip up a diss track in no time flat, was completely ghost. And now we know why that was. It turns out the savior of hip-hop and all things culture wasn’t about to involve himself in a rap battle without a new shiny deal in place with his good old pal John Janik at Interscope Records. You guys do remember John, right? You know to God it got like the big promotion. That’s right, on April 27th 2004, Kendrick put pen to paper and signed a deal with P.G.
Lang and licensing through Interscope and three days later, Euphoria dropped. But basically the reason why it took the reincarnated version of Tupac 17 days to respond was because he was in cahoots with John Janik and Interscope discussing the best path forward so that they could both weep the benefits from the moment. Before the beef, Kendrick was cold as ice and the newly promoted John Janik was willing to do whatever it takes to not just bring Drake down, but to prove himself. But this is where it gets extremely interesting. Kendrick dropped four disc records in the beef against Drake.
Euphoria, 616 in LA, Meet the Grams, and Not Like Us. After that he dropped the GNX project, but this is the major difference. All three of the disc records that were added to DSPs were licensed directly from Kendrick Lamar to Interscope Records, but the GNX project was licensed from P.G. Lang to Interscope Records. Why are the three disc tracks different? That’s very eager to look into Kendrick Lamar’s contract with Interscope and that’s probably why UMG has heavily redacted information from it. And this is the smoking gun, right? Because that tells me that in that contract that he signed, those three disc tracks, there has to be something about the battle in the contract because those three records had a different agreement.
Now I agree with what the dirt, what he’s saying seems to be the truth. Kendrick was used as a puppet to take down Drake. Kendrick literally got paid to do it. Now honestly, this is not about who’s song was better or not, it’s about the labels being corrupt and evil. Whether you want to believe it or not, this beef was fake and orchestrated by the labels. Yes, Kendrick won, but Drake never had a shot at winning. The labels wanted to devalue Drake just like they did to Michael Jackson. Recently the lawsuit between Drake and UMG has been kicking off, with UMG firing back at Drake basically claiming in their response that they did things with minors.
So the next thing was that UMG has came out and they’re now saying that they have information about Drake or they have discovery about Drake and maybe allegations of minors. Listen to this. This is kind of a little bit odd too. Spawning to Drake and it’s saying, hey listen, we have in our possession or custody the following categories of documents that might be used to support our defense unless they would be used for solely impeachment. First of all, we do have the contract between UMG and Drake and we have contracts between the relationship between Drake and UMG, which is pretty much the same thing.
We have the other recordings in Drake and Kendrick Lamar rap feud and the documents concerning the distribution, marketing, and promotion of all the records in the feud. They’re saying the petition entitled Art on Trial, Protect Black Art, it said we have other recordings by Drake and documents concerning the same, including but not limited to whatever. Okay, then this is like the important part. It says there’s news reports and documents concerning Drake’s relationship with and behavior around minors. Two, or not I, that was one. Two, the criminal charges and conviction of Baca not nice.
Three, the rap feud between Drake and Lamar, including but not limited to the documents appended as, okay. This was truly eye-opening and it proves what I have been saying for years. Think about it. Michael and Drake had the same allegations made against them, but while the label was making money off of them and they had a good relationship, they defended these artists no matter what. If anyone had called Drake a PDF file, UMG would have destroyed their career because Drake was their property and if an artist called Drake out and ruined his reputation, they would lose millions.
Same thing with Michael. At first, they defended him and then they exposed them when they had beef with him. Then after he died and they owned this catalog again, they cleaned his reputation up and pushed him as the biggest artist again. I myself believe that Drake might be into them young and Michael was likely a PDF file too, but I also believe the labels knew this the whole time, but they chose to hide it and keep it as leverage and blackmail to keep these artists in check. It’s the same thing they did with R Kelly.
R Kelly was exposed for his crimes against them young all the way back in the 2000s. Everyone knew he had a relationship with Aliyah too when she was only 14. He even married her. He also got caught and went to trial for what he did to another young girl. Yet the labels protected him and got him off all the charges. They protected him because he was a massive star in the 2000s making the labels millions. The moment the Me Too era came around and the mute R Kelly movement started rising, the labels felt pressured to act out.
So they kicked R Kelly off the label and shortly he got arrested. They only did this because R Kelly was cooked and they were receiving backlash for working with him. The labels knew what R Kelly was doing the whole time. The same way they knew what Michael and Drake were doing if they really did it, but they chose to protect these artists until the artist got out of line and then they used it against them. Just like they did to Michael before he died and like they’re doing to Drake right now.
Drake is definitely a target right now. That is obvious. I honestly don’t see this ending well for Drake. While Drake is a sellout in my eyes and likely is into them young, I still think the labels do need to be exposed. They not only manipulate fans and even artists, but they push poison and profit from death like we see from drill music. The record labels are evil and they need to be exposed. So if Drake chooses to wage this war, I have no issues with it. Well, I’m gonna end this one here.
I wanna thank you all for watching and I’ll see you guys in the next one. [tr:trw].
