Summary
➡ The text discusses various actors and their roles in mob films, speculating if they could survive in real mob life. Joe Pesci is praised for his authenticity and is considered a “made man”. Johnny Depp, despite his talent, is deemed too eccentric for mob life. Robert De Niro, due to his understanding of mob life, could survive but not as a “made man”. Cillian Murphy, James Gandolfini, Jack Nicholson, Tony Sirico, and Leonardo DiCaprio are also evaluated, with varying opinions on their potential mob survival.
➡ The text discusses various actors and their potential to survive in a tough, street-wise lifestyle. It suggests that Chaz Palminteri, Sylvester Stallone, and Jimmy Khan could have thrived in such a life due to their character and experiences. However, it argues that Tom Hardy, Al Pacino, and Robert Duvall, despite their acting brilliance, may not have the necessary traits to survive in a street environment.
➡ The text discusses various actors who have played roles in mobster movies and evaluates if they could have survived in the real mob life. The actors include Frank Vincent, Steven Van Zandt, Vincent Pastori, Armand Assante, and Anthony Quinn. The author believes that while these actors brilliantly portrayed their characters, most of them, like Van Zandt and Assante, wouldn’t have survived in the real mob life due to their non-streetwise nature. However, actors like Pastori and Quinn, due to their understanding of the street life and their strong presence, could have potentially made it in the mob world.
➡ The speaker is discussing various characters from popular mob movies and TV shows, like The Sopranos and Goodfellas, and speculating on whether they could have survived in real-life organized crime. He categorizes them as “made men” or “survivors”, based on their toughness, intelligence, and adaptability. He also invites viewers to share their opinions and teases future discussions about other iconic series. Lastly, he encourages viewers to stay safe and healthy, mentioning his own health routines and his goal of longevity.

You got to have something inside you where you got to be able to pull a trigger. I’m going to be honest with you. He’s definitely in the category of made man. He’s my number one guy so far. Very mysterious, but there’s something inside of him that I think he could have made it on the street. He’s kind of sensitive, moody. It doesn’t appear to me that he follows orders. Well, he. In that life, you got to follow orders. Discipline, authority. You step out of line, you could be in trouble for him. I put forget about it.
So let’s forget about him. Hey, everyone. Welcome to another sit down with Michael Francis. Hope everybody is doing well. All is very good, very blessed on this end, my friends. And as always, I give all the praise, honor, glory and thanksgiving to our God for that. Well, my birthday is almost upon us and. And you know the deal. I have never in the past asked you to subscribe in the five years that I’m on, I’ve only been doing it in the last couple of weeks because we have a milestone that we’re very close to reaching, and that is 2 million subscribers.
It’s big on YouTube, trust me on that. Very few people out of the hundred and some odd million people that have platforms on YouTube can reach 2 million. It’s hard to reach 1 million. Getting to 2 million. Wow. So you’ve helped me. I. I have had so many people subscribe over the past couple of weeks. I thank you for that. It’s a birthday present for me. You know, we’re going to do something special on my birthday. I think you’ve been seeing some of the ads that we’ve been running for this. We’re going to have a live on YouTube, glass of wine, piece of slices, pizza, and we’re going to have a toast together, enjoy a meal, talk about a couple of things, and then I’m going to open it up for a Q and A.
So there’s still Time to get into that if you want to, but. But if not, just give me a birthday present. If you feel that you would like to do that, I would appreciate it very much. And we’ll celebrate our birthday together. So that’s that. You know, I try to put as many things about the mob out there as I possibly can because I know that’s how I started this channel. People love it. I won’t make things up. You know, sometimes you run out of stories. The first year or two of of my YouTube channel is all about the mob.
And now when something’s interesting, I put it out there. And people, you gotta say this. There’s been no other organized crime group in the world anywhere that’s been as publicized, as romanticized as reported on. As the Mafia Goes on Austria. We see more movies about that, more TV series, more documentaries. One just came out, the Five Families on Netflix. I’m involved in that than any other mob group. There’s no question about it. Listen, the popularity in the genre is there. People know that. I think there’s another mob movie coming out. They’re creating one on my life right now, developing a lot of stuff.
So I know people enjoy it. So I’ve done something. Me and my team put something together I think you’re going to enjoy. There are many iconic actors out there that have portrayed mob roles. You know that. Al Pacino, brilliant. Armand Desante, brilliant. So many of them out there. And I picked on about 20 or 22 of them. And what I’m going to talk about is, could these guys really make it in the mobile, the real actors? Can Marlon Brando make it in the mob? Can Al Pacino make it in the mob? And so what we did, we did some research on each character.
Of course, I know some of them. I know about some of them. We’ve done some research on them, and we’re going to talk about it. We’re going to put it in three different categories. The categories are very simple. Can he be a made man? You know what a made man is? Guy that takes the oath, guys that got what it takes, went through his period as a recruitment, proved himself, and he’s a made guy. He’s got what it takes. That’s number one. Category. Number two, survivor. He’s not official material, you know, but maybe he can survive in that life, you know, whatever.
Always told you, remember, there’s two categories. You got the racketeers and the gangster. Maybe he can make it as a gangster. He’ll survive. He’ll get by. Whatever, okay? That’s category two. And category three is Forget about it or Mama Luke. Interchangeable. They could never ever make it in that life based upon what we know about them, them personally. So that’s what this is all about. Tell me if you agree. You disagree. Let’s go down the list. I want to hear your comments. And I think I’m pretty spot on. I have a pretty good, you know, understanding of that life, having grown up in it with a very infamous father, Sonny Francis, you know, that having been around it, you know, and then being a made guy myself for over 20 some odd years.
So I think I can be pretty spot on about this. We’ve done our research. I’ve taken some notes. So I’m going to go through each one of them and we’re going to put them in different categories. So here we go. Let’s have some fun. I want to hear your comments about it. And if you think I’ve missed something, let me know. If you agree with me, let me know also. All right, people, listen up. My 75th birthday, May 27th. Do you believe this? 75. Three quarters of a century. There was a time I never thought I’d get this far.
Now, my wife said to me, how do you want to spend your birthday? I said, obviously with family. We do that all the time. But I have an extended family. All of you people that have watched my videos, have read my books, have, you know, come to visit me when I was speaking anywhere in the world, I want to spend it all with you because you’re my extended family. So here’s what we’re going to do. We have slices pizza and of course, Franz east wine. The live stream. We’re going to do a live stream and it’s free for everyone, but I’ve got an exclusive deal.
You order slices pizza and Franz east wine through the link in the description before the 27th. And you’ll get a special link to join me live for an exclusive Q and A right after the live stream. And it’s just you, me and the family. So order it now. You don’t want to miss this. It’s an offer you can’t refuse. And you know what? This will really, really be a very special and happy birthday for me. So thank you all. Number one, Marlon Brando. Now, this is what I know about Marlon Brando. First of all, you know who he was.
Brilliant character in Don Corleone. Just brilliant. You know, I can’t tell you how good that was. You know, his character, the way he portrayed it, just the Way he carried himself, Absolutely brilliant and fascinating. There’s not enough good that I can say about his character, his portrayal of Don Corleone in that life. Now let’s go a little bit about him personally. He’s in real life, he was eccentric, no doubt. Philosophical, hippie energy. Famously difficult on the set. He was very difficult. Would he last 15 minutes in a real crew, or would his personality get him clipped? Marlon Brando wouldn’t make it five minutes in that life.
No doubt. And, you know, you look at some of his other movies, you know, that he was in, he’s always, like playing a tough guy. He wouldn’t make it one minute in that life. Believe me, I know that for a fact. He was too eccentric. He was too, you know, sensitive. It just wouldn’t make it, you know. So the category I’d have to put him in, forget about it. No question about it. Brilliant character in the Godfather. Forget about it in her life. Nowhere near would he make it. And I think that’s obvious. Okay, one of my favorite we’re going to go to right now.
Joe Pesci, Goodfellas Casino. The Irishman. Jersey born guy, very street smart. He’s the guy that discovered Frankie Valley in the Four Seasons. I don’t know if you know that. When I say discovered, he heard them and he started to help them build their career early on. Okay, so what do we know about him? Funny how. Remember that scene? I’m funny how? I mean, funny like I’m a clown. Brilliant. I can’t tell you. He lights up the screen every time he’s on there, no matter what role he’s in. But I do have to say this. In the Irishman, he played a totally different character than he did in all his other mob films, and he pulled it off tremendously.
He was terrific. I happen to know the character he played, and he was great. Trust me on that. He nailed it. So would he make it in that life? Let me give you a little background. He’s very authentic. Would he survive? Would he start a war within the week? Number one, I definitely put him as a made man. Definitely put him as a made man. He could have done it. He grew in that environment. He grew up in that atmosphere. Listen, you know, you got to have something inside you where you got to be able to pull a trigger.
I’m going to be honest with you. I think Joe Pesci could do that. That’s my personal opinion. So he’s definitely in the category of made man. He’s my number one guy. So Far. Okay, number three, Johnny Depp. All right. Donnie Brasco, Black Mass. Great in both of those roles. You know, I saw Black Mass and it was such a dark movie. Whitey Bulger, such a dark movie. I couldn’t believe it when I was with my wife in there. I walked out of there and remember, I spent 24, 20 some odd years in that life. I said, honey, that movie is so dark.
It even got to me. There was no redeeming characters, no nothing. But he nailed it. The makeup was terrific, and he did a great job. And. And Donnie Brasco, I thought he was brilliant. Really brilliant. He really was terrific. But in real life, Depp is eccentric. He’s artsy and very Hollywood. Would he get made fun of at the social club before he got made? Forget about it. No way that Johnny Depp is going to be part of that life. I did. I have a feeling. Forget about it. It’s going to be a big category here. No way.
From what I know of him, what I’ve seen of him, I do like his calm demeanor. When I watched him in that trial with Amber, I forget her last name. I thought he. His demeanor was really good. I really did. And I kind of looked at him and I was thinking of his role in Donnie Brasco. I said, I wonder if this guy could have made it. But in reality, no way. Forget about it. He’s not made man material at all. That might not be a bad thing. It depends on what side of the fence you’re on.
But anyway, so that’s Johnny Depp. All right. Robert De Niro, Goodfellas Casino, the Irishman, A Bronx Tale, the Blueprint. He studied real wise guys obsessively. He grew up around Little Italy. He carries himself with quiet menace. And we know what he’s been doing lately. He’s been sounding off on Trump. You know, he doesn’t like the guy. I got to tell you this, I think. And he’s not a made guy. No question in my mind, he’s not a made guy. But since he grew up around it, he studied it. He knows the life. I think he could survive.
I really do. I think he knows how to maintain himself so that he would survive in that life. So I’d put him in that category. A made guy. I don’t think so. I know a little bit about him, you know, outside of the life, and I don’t think he makes it as a made guy. Survivor. Yeah. So let’s put him in that category. All right. This is. This is a favorite of mine. I Have to say it’s not Mafia Cosa Nostra. And by the way, we’re not only mafia Cos and Austria, just, you know, guys that played mobster roles.
And this is Cillian Murphy in Peaky Blinders. And you know what I’ve said about that series. Brilliant series. If you haven’t watched it, watch it. Went through the whole series. I loved it. Brilliant, you know, and Cillian Murphy was brilliant. Let me tell you a little bit about him. He’s intense, incredible on the screen, no doubt about it. He’s very soft spoken. He’s artsy and meditative in real life. Could he survive a Brooklyn social club or would he be eaten alive? I don’t think he survives. I really don’t. You know, from what I know of him, what I’ve heard of him.
Nice guy. I hear he’s a little bit intense. He’s quiet. I don’t know if he makes it in that life. I’d have to say forget about it. I don’t know, I just don’t think he does. I have to say forget about it. His character was brilliant. Taking nothing away from him. It’s not a bad thing if you wouldn’t make it as a mobster, is it? But I put him in the forget about it category. I think he’s got too much of a soul and a conscience to be part of that life. That’s how I see him and that’s what my research takes.
Let’s go to James Gondolfini. Who doesn’t know James. Poor guy, passed away at an early age. The Sopranos, of course. True romance. He’s a Jersey guy through and through. Physical presence, deep intelligence. Real life reputation for being a tough guy. You may not know that, but he’s got a real life reputation as being tough boss material or just a respected capo. You know, forget about his, his role in the Sopranos, because I’ve said this many times, he was not a good boss. He was not a good boss because anytime a boss is visiting a psychiatrist, something is definitely wrong.
He wouldn’t make it in that life. Trust me, as the bo bus. He’d have been dead. He’d have been in the back of a trunk of a car along with the psychiatrist a long time ago. But I think, I think he could make it in that life. I think he could have been a made man. Now. He’s a really nice guy. And when you’re going to say, well, nice guys aren’t. No, there are some nice guys in that life. Trust me, I think he could have made it. I would put him in that category. Definitely not a boss, you know, but he would have made.
He would have been a made man. Let’s put him in that category. And man, you know, everything I’ve ever heard about him has been positive. From all the cast around him, from people that I know that knew him. Everybody just loved the guy, really. You know, it’s. It’s such a shame what happened with him, you know, to pass at such an early age, but. So let’s put him in made man category. I think he had what it takes. Jack Nicholson, you remember that in the Departed. What a brilliant role he played. Prizzy’s honor, Hollywood royalty. And he really is charismatic, theatrical, but too famous.
Too much personality. Would he attract every fed in the tri state area? He probably would, but he’s a very intense guy, from what I know. I got a feeling he could make it as a made guy. I really do. He might attract attention, but a lot of guys attract attention. I attracted attention. Gotti, of course, you know, Joe Colombia. A lot of guys attract attention. That doesn’t mean you couldn’t make it as a made man. It’s not good to attract that attention. That’s not a good quality, honestly. But I. I think he could have make it.
I think there’s something inside of Jack. You know, he’s very mysterious. He really is. But there’s something inside of him that I think he could have made it on the street. So let’s put him in a made man category. Tony Sirico, the Sopranos, Paulie Walnuts. Terrific character. Wasn’t even acting. He had a real rap sheet. Real time done. He did time in prison. He knew real guys. Was he as close to the real thing as Hollywood ever produced? No question. He could have been a made guy. I know pretty much about Tony Sirico. He could have been.
It was a street guy. And if somebody would have proposed him, he would have made it. There’s no question. I think you can see his character. He played a brilliant character. He was kind of funny, he was kind of tough, you know, but he grew up around that life. He knew enough about it. He was a street guy. He was a thug in some ways. He could have definitely made in that life. So he’s in the made man category. Happy to put him there. I think he’d be happy too. Famous guy. Leonardo DiCaprio, the departed gangs of New York.
Fantastic actor. He plays tough very well, but he’s very polished and refined in real life. Could he Survive on brains and charm alone. I don’t believe he could have. He seems like a smart guy. You know what I like about Leo? He. He kind of tries to stay under the radar, and that’s a good quality in that life. So let’s say if he was pushed into the life, would he. How would he do? I think he could survive in that life. I really do. Because of his character. If he was pushed into it and said, hey, this is something you got to do, whatever, I think he’d survive.
I don’t think. I don’t know if he’d get made, but I think he can make his way around the street because he’s low key, brilliant actor. But outside of that, he doesn’t attract a lot of attention. He doesn’t want to. So he’s pretty low key. And if he’s put in a situation, I think he could survive. So if he was put on the street, I think he’d make it. So we put him in that category. He’s a survivor. Somebody very close to me. We know that. Chaz Palminteri, A Bronx Tale analyzed this. The usual suspects. He wrote A Brock’s Tale from his own personal experiences in the neighborhood.
Chaz, I love the guy, you know, he’s. I love him. He’s like a brother to me. Our families are close. A great, great guy. He grew up around a lot of guys, no question. He could have made it as a made guy. He’s not. He didn’t want that life. He was smart. I believe it might have even been offered to him. As a matter of fact, I know it was. He didn’t want any part of it in that regard. He wanted to pursue his career as an actor in which he did a brilliant job, as we know.
Started off with the Bronx Tale. He’s still, until today, doing the One man show of Bronx Tale. He’s been doing it for over 30 years all over the world. He was just in, in London, sold out, performance, terrific. He’s got street smarts. He could have definitely made it as a made man. And his character in the Bronx Tale, brilliant. You know, it reminded me so much of my dad. It really did. It was just a brilliant job that he did. And he wrote the script and you got to see him in the One Man Show. If he’s ever in your area, go and see it.
You’ll be fascinated. And. And the movie the Bronx Tale came out of his performance in the One Man Show. De Niro happened to be sitting in the audience. Well, not happened. He went to see him. And he thought he was so brilliant, he said, let’s make a movie out of this. And he did. And he gave him the starring role, you know, a role that De Niro would normally take. And he was, you know, the bus driver, father of Little Collo. But he could have definitely made it as a made guy. Jaz, don’t get mad at me for this.
You know, I know you’re straight, but no question about it. Another great one, Tom Hardy. Brilliant actor. Peaky Blinders, The Legend, the Drop. Physically could handle it, but famously eccentric and method actor. Strange. Would the guys think he’s nuts and not in a dangerous way. Again, Peaky Blinders. He played an old Orthodox Jewish gangster. Oh, brilliant role. I mean, he was just brilliant. I didn’t even realize it was him at first because he had the long. He was just brilliant. I have to say it. And anything he does, he’s brilliant. He was brilliant in the Legend when he played the Kray Twins.
But could he make it on the street? I don’t think so. He’s kind of sensitive, moody. It doesn’t appear to me that he follows orders. Well, and you’ll. In that life, you got to follow orders. Discipline, authority. No question about it. You step out of line, you could be in trouble. So for him, I put. Forget about it. I just don’t think he’s that street material. Even though he’s brilliant in his role. I don’t think so. So let’s forget about him. Forget about it. Ray Liotta, Goodfellas. Killing them softly. He’s very intense. This is. In his personal life.
Volatile, very charismatic. Had that look that made you believe he could snap. Would he end up like Henry Hill, Alive but in Witness Protection? You have to see him in the movie Turbulence. If you haven’t seen that. The original Turbulence, I think they did a remake of it. The original Turbulence. He was scary good in that movie. He’s a brilliant actor. Ray Liotta, could he have made it on the street? Survivor? I think so. You know, from what I know about him personally, he played Henry Hills brilliantly. Henry never looked so good as Ray Liotta made him look in that movie.
Because that wasn’t Henry in real life, Trust me about that. But he did a brilliant job. So I think I know enough about him. He could be a survivor in that life. No question. Sylvester Stallone, Tulsa King. One of my favorite TV series lately, Copland. He was great in that as a cop, you know, and so many other movies. Of course, I don’t have to mention everybody knows Stallone and all his iconic movies. Terrific, right? Physically intimidating. He grew up rough in Hell’s Kitchen. Old school energy. Francis has publicly vouched for him before. And I have, you know, does he have what it takes? I think Sly could have been a made guy.
I really do. I love the way he carries himself. You know, I have to say this about Sly when all so many of these other actors are getting all political and doing all of this stuff and thinking who they are, and we have to listen to them because they know how to act. Sly, he doesn’t do any of that. None of that at all. He does his job as an actor, he takes care of his family, and that’s it. He doesn’t get into much controversy at all. He knows his place. You know, we all have to know our place in life, and that’s not a bad thing When I say we know our place and we shouldn’t step out of it at times.
He could have made it as a made guy. He’s got the discipline. He certainly had the look, and I think he would have been a good made guy. And by the way, I love him in Tulsa, King. I really do. We’re going to do something else, and I’m going to, I don’t want to give it away. We’re going to do something else. And, and Sly will be part of this also. I definitely put him as possibility of being a made guy. Al Pacino. Do I have to say it? The Godfather trilogy. Scarface. Donnie Brasco, the Irishman.
Brilliant actor. Absolutely brilliant. Bronx Born. But he was very artistic and theatrical. Not a street guy. Would intelligence, intensity be enough for him to survive? My answer to this with Al Pacino, forget about it. He’s not the street guy. He’s not made man material. Again, this isn’t a bad thing, but he’s so brilliant as an actor. He really is. You know, a lot of people kind of knocked his performance in the Irishman. They said he was too, you know, too out there. He was overacting. I thought he was brilliant as Jimmy Hoffa. I, I, he lit up the screen for me.
And I will tell you this. In Donnie Brasco, that was, that was a better performance than in the Godfather, as far as I’m concerned. Because I knew Lefty Guns, Lefty Rogerio. He was terrific. He was so real. He was such a real made guy, a real street guy. I loved him in that role. Of course, Scarface, brilliant. He does, he’s brilliant in almost everything he does, really. But I don’t think he’s a street guy. He’s very artsy. If you look at him now, you laugh at him at his old age. He’s always kind of like tralala.
It’s funny. He’s got a child, I think, at 80 years old. I don’t know what it is. He’s not a street guy. And like I said, not necessarily a bad thing so far. Al Pacino, forget about it. Jimmy Khan, the Godfather, the Yards. He was born in Sunnyside, Queens. We happen to know him. He was very close when Andrew Russo, Mike Coppola, Jim, at one time, famously had real friendships with actual Colombo family guys. Like I just mentioned, he had the swagger, the physicality and the loyalty. Was he legit Captain material? Jimmy Khan knew enough about that life.
He could have made it. There’s no question. He could have been a made guy. I really believe so. And from what I know of him, and I knew enough of him to say that he wanted to be an actor. He had the opportunity to be a street guy, not necessarily a made guy, but a street guy where he could have survived in that life. So I put him in the category. I think he could have been a made guy. I really do. So let’s put him there. All right. Robert Duvall, brilliant actor. Again, the Godfather, Godfather Part 2.
Brilliant actor. Played the perfect Consiglieri. I don’t know about that, but he was good. But pure Midwestern gentleman energy in real life. No street in him whatsoever is my opinion. Would Tom Hagen survive without Duvall’s acting? Well, I have to tell you this. It wasn’t a real role. He played it brilliantly in that life, but he wasn’t the real Consulari because he wasn’t Italian. And you got to be, in order to be a made guy, to be a consigliere in that life, you got to be Italian. Your father’s got to be Italian at least. So it was kind of a made up role that he had in that.
In the movie the Godfather. I don’t think he makes it in that life, you know, even though he knew he was around it. But from what I know of him and from the research that we did, my team did, I don’t think. I think he’s a forget about guy. I don’t want to call him a Mama Luke, although some people can be a Mama Luke in this category. But forget about him being on the street. Although he was a brilliant actor, that’s just not who he was. Frank Vincent, you know who he is. Great actor. Goodfellas, Casino, the Sopranos.
He’s another guy who seemed born for the role. Tough, respected, carried himself like the real thing. But would he have made it as a solid earner in any crew, is the question. From what I know of him, he would have been a survivor in that life. He knew enough about that life. He understood it, understood the street. I don’t know if he’s made Guy material, but I think he would have survived in that life. Of course, he was brilliant in the role in Soprano. He’s always seen. He’s had roles in a lot of these movies. A lot of them were kind of B rolls.
But he does a good job when he’s in it, you know, he really does. He was great in Casino, you know, always having to take care of Joe Pesci in that life. He was good. So I say he’s a survivor. He has knowledge. Steven Van Zant, you know him in the Savannah and the Soprano. Silvio, he’s a Jersey guy, a rock and roll magician. He’s smart as hell. He has the calm, cool energy of a consigliere in the. In the role. In the Sopranos role. But is he too rock and roll for the real life? Absolutely.
He’s a musician. When you look at him in real life, you wonder how he even got the role in the Sopranos. Two totally different characters, no question about it. So although he did a great job, he’s not street material at all. So forget about him, you know, let’s keep him as a musician and if he wants to act in that role. I don’t know if he’ll ever get acting role as a mobster. It fit in the Sopranos, even though sometimes I looked at him and I said, ah, something about this. And then I found out he was a musician.
So I understood. So with Van Zandt, forget about it. He’s not street guy. Vincent Pastori, Big. Loved the guy. I interviewed him once. He’s a terrific guy. The Sopranos, the Hurricane. He was in my favorite movie as a, you know, my favorite mob movie. I say this all the time. And that was Gotti, the HBO version of Gotti back in 1996, where Armandisante. So brilliant and just brilliant. And he played Big Pussy, remember? He was terrific in that role. He’s terrific in every role. I love what he does. He’s Bronx born. He had the look, he had the voice, the whole package.
Would he survive or would his talkative nature make him a flip risk like his character? I believe he could have been a Made guy. He was a street guy. And I think he could have elevated to a made guy. And that’s after I met with him. I met him back in the day also. So I knew him. If he wanted to pursue that life, I’m not saying he would have gotten there, but he could have been a made guy, you know, so he might get mad at me for saying that. I hope not, because I love the guy, but definitely put him in that category.
He’s a great actor in these roles. He’s terrific. I love him. And so he could have been a made guy. Now, you know where I stand with this guy. Armand Assante, friend of mine. Love the guy. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. As Gotti in the HBO Gotti movie, 1996. Played John better than John played himself. I always say that he was absolutely terrific in that role. I’ve watched that movie I don’t know how many times. You know, sometimes my wife doesn’t like the TV on at night. I have to have the TV on. It puts me to sleep.
But since she don’t like it, fortunately, we have computers and all the movies, you can bring them up. I can’t tell you how many times over the years I just put the Gotti movie back on. It’s not free on YouTube, and I put it on. I never get tired of it because it was so brilliant. It was so. Everything about it. It was so authentic, so scripted so well. And. And Armand Desanti just killed the role. And I mean that in a good way. He was terrific. Anthony Quinn, terrific. You know, Pastori, terrific. So. But let’s talk about Armandesante.
I know him. Really nice guy like him. Brilliant, very artistic. The Mambo Kings, remember? Great role. He won an Emmy playing John Gotti. Well deserved. And was so convincing. He reportedly earned the respect of real wise guys. Absolutely. They loved how he played that role. We all did because it was so brilliantly done. He’s smooth, intense, commanding, and has the look and energy of a guy who could have actually been there. Made man material or all performance. Okay. And I’m saying this in a good way. From what I know of him. He’s just too nice a guy.
He really is a nice guy. Very artistic. Brilliant in that regard. He’s not real street material, which makes his performance even more brilliant. The same like. Like Don, like Corleone, Marlon Brando. They’re so opposite that it makes their performance as a mob guy even more unbelievable. Really brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. I say this in a good way about Armand. I don’t believe he’s street material. He’s just too much of a nice guy, too artistic, too great at what he does. So I’m gonna have to keep him out of that. I have to put him in a forget about category.
Definitely not a Mama Luke. He’s too smart for that. But forget about him being a mobster or a street guy. Too nice of a guy, too artistic, too brilliant at what he does. So we’ll put him in the forget about character category, and that’s in a good way. Anthony Quinn, again, you don’t have to go any further than the role that he played as Neil Della Croce in Gotti, the HBO Gotti Movie alongside Armando Sante. I want to tell you this about Anthony Carson Quinn before I get into, you know, him personally, the role he played.
There’s one scene in that movie that gave me the chills. It was so brilliantly done, and it was so real. So real. And Anthony Quinn pulled it off in a way that I’m telling you. He could have been a mob guy, a boss, anything in that movie. And that was when he fought all night to save John Gotti, because John had killed a maid guy in another guy’s crew, in Paulie Castellano’s crew, and Castellano wanted him killed. This was before he became the boss, right? There was bad blood there early on. And Anthony Quinn, Neil De la Croix, which is true, fought for his life.
So after he gets his life, Carlo Gambino gave him, got his life, he spared his life. He goes to see Gotti at his club, Armand, and he says, you come over here. And he sits down, and the dialogue that came out of him and the way he performed it, it gave me the chills. Because one thing he said in there, you don’t kill a guy. Another, a made guy from another man’s crew, you don’t do it. He said, and I love you. I’m summarizing here. I love you, but if I would have been told to kill you, I would have came here with these two zips and you would go, the rules.
We can’t break the rules. If we break the rules, this whole life goes down the drain. Again, I’m summarizing. I’m getting the chills now because it was such a brilliant role. And Gotti just sit there and took it like he should have. But that scene, I have to say, that was one of the most iconic scenes in any mob movie that I’ve ever seen. Really, it was absolutely brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. So that’s what I think of him in that role as a character, but. And he’s an old school guy, Hollywood toughness. He’s Mexican, Irish, imagine that.
But had that universal old country gravitas, larger than life presence and lived a life nearly as wild as any of his characters. Would the old school respect translate to the life? My answer is yes. I think he could have been a made. Now obviously he wasn’t Italian, so he couldn’t have been a made man. But I’d put him in that role. If he was Italian, I think he could have made it as a made guy. He was a tough guy. He had the gravitas. He was very smart. I see him as a made guy. I’m going to be honest with you and I guess maybe I can’t get the vision of Neil Delacroix out of my head in that scene.
It was just brilliant. So I’m putting him in the made man category. If he was Italian, that’s the one caveat. He had to be Italian. So. But just brilliant. I have enough good to say about that. Okay, here’s my last guy. Michael Imperiali. You know who he was? The Sopranos, Goodfellas. He’s the guy that got shot in the foot. Remember Joe Pesci shot him. He’s smart, adaptable, queens raised. He has the instincts. Would he survive as a loyal soldier? Maybe work his way up like Christopher tried to. I’m going to be honest, I did not like his character in the Sopranos at all.
I thought he was wishy washy, wimpy. I didn’t like him doing drugs. I don’t like the way he treated his girlfriend Dreya, who I love. I had her on my show. She was terrific. So such a nice woman. Me and my wife really enjoyed, you know, hosting her. I hated him in that role. I don’t know why. Now, I’m not saying he did a bad job. I just didn’t like his character. So maybe that’s a good thing. Would he have made it on the street? I think he could have survived. He knew enough about the life.
You know, when you’re brought up in the neighborhoods like that, you kind of get a good feel for the life and you could probably survive. Maybe not as a made guy, but survive. So I’m going to put him in the category of a survivor. Now, if I was looking at his character Christopher in the Sopranos, I’d say forget about it. He couldn’t have even made was such a bad look in that. In that television series. So. But in real life, I, I think we’re going to put him out as a survivor. So let me go over this again.
You see who we got. We got 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. We got 10 as a made man. Tell me if you agree or not. You know, we got Joe Pesci, we got the Sopranos guy, we got. I’m not going to name them all, but tell me if you agree with me or not. On the maid guys, the survivors, we got 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 guys that are survivors. Tell me what you think. And again, remember, this is who they are. This is in real life. Would they have made it in the mob? They’re a real life person.
Would they have made it as a made guy or as a survivor in their life or forget about it. And as. Forget about it. We have 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. We have nine guys. So tell me what you think and hopefully we can have some fun with this. And I have another good one coming up. You’re going to enjoy it, but let’s do this one and see where it goes. And you know, we can have such fun with these movies and these television series, really, because they really are iconic. You know, there’s such brilliant series out there.
You got the Godfather of Harlem. Brilliant, not necessarily really authentic. A lot of things in there I didn’t agree with didn’t really happen. They had a lot about the, the chin in there that I don’t think was true. I know wasn’t true, but it was a brilliant series. Really brilliant. Boardwalk Empire, brilliant series. You know, there’s a lot of them out there that are just great. They do a great job with these. They really do. So we could talk about some in the future. If you have any requests, anything you want me to do, something special about the mob life, we go through the comments.
We can’t go through them all. We get thousands. But sometimes if something, you know, really strikes us and we say, hey, that’s a good idea, we’ll do it. So hope you enjoyed this. We’ll do some more of these things. We got a good one coming up. Watch for it. And, and that’s it for today. So how do I always leave you, my friends? Remember birthday coming up? You know, if you haven’t hit the subscribe button, please do it now. You get me closer to 2 million mark and I appreciate that very much. I always leave you the same way.
Be safe. Crazy world we’re going through here. Be healthy. Very, very important. This red light therapy, I’m telling you it’s helping me. I’m doing it. And this Neutronix, I’m doing that also. And I’m feeling different. And I wouldn’t say this. Not getting anything for this. I’m just telling you I’m actually doing it. And it’s good. Mars Men doing that, too. It’s. It’s making me feel better. I have to say that, because I’m approaching 75 years old, and I’m looking at longevity right now. You know, that’s the truth. I want to see my grandkids, and I want to see my great grandkids.
So I’m doing the best I can. Be safe, be healthy. God bless each and every one of you. Family, friends, neighborhood, communities, all your loved ones. God bless America. Yes. I’ll see you next time. Stay tuned. Sa.
