Pablo Escobars Son Breaks Silence About His Father Narcos and The Cartel

He was fascinated by it, and I’m sure a lot of other people will. And I’ll tell you this, I’ve been all over the world. I’ve never been to South America, so I think I would love to take this. That’s a great excuse to have you there, man. It’s a great excuse. Well, I’m going to really consider it. I would love to come and meet you and just sit with you and shake your hand and maybe have dinner and a glass of wine. I would really love that. Absolutely. Sebastian, I can’t count how many interviews in the past five years.

Without a doubt, this is the most fascinating and the most satisfying sit-down that I’ve ever had. I really mean that. Thank you, Michael. For me, it’s also an honour and very important to have this conversation with you, and I really want to thank you, and I really appreciate the way you handled the conversation. You know, I feel like I’m talking with somebody that I met a long time ago, not somebody that I just met, and I really appreciate that you showed always lots of respect. And when you show respect, you receive the same, man. So thank you very much.

You deserve it all. I have a tremendous amount of respect for you, really. And I am going to make it. I’m going to get down there. I don’t know if we’ll do it in September, but I’m going to get, definitely, I’ll set it up with Reese. Yeah, I really look forward to that. I mean it. So thank you so much, Sebastian. What was the very last conversation you had with your father? Well, it was, you know, he was trying to stay in contact with us. And I remember that one of his first advices was never use the phone line, because you’re going to be dead seconds after. And he kept calling us. And I kept, you know, just saying, don’t call anymore. We’re OK. Please don’t call anymore.

So the last call with him was about, you know, giving an interview for a very well-known medicine in Colombia. And they were asking some questions for him. And I was telling him, hey, I know all the answers. We have so many conversations during the previous nights that I can answer for you. I know you so well that trust me. But he was willing to stay in the phone line, but in purpose, because he was, you know, somehow he decided to put an end to his life. And this is why he stayed on the phone on purpose as long as he wanted, because he wanted his call to be traced, because he wanted to put an end to his life.

So he was also a suicidal call because this was there was my father for the past 10 years of my life teaching me how not to use a phone because you’re going to be dead one minute after. And then we have him, the most wanted man in the world, calling and calling and calling to where his family is, specifically detained in a hotel that belonged to the army forces. Come on. It was a suicide, a suicidal call. So this is what I remember is not only the questions, but mostly the truth behind that call. That was because he was making that call in purpose because he wanted to put an end to his life.

And I see this as one of his biggest acts of love, because he committed suicide. To free his family at the end of his life. I just got the chills when you said that. That’s unbelievable, really. So your father in the end was sacrificing himself just so that maybe there would be some freedom. And I’ll bet, I’m not in your father’s shoes, but I’ll bet he was probably praying at that time that your family would be able to move forward in the right way. That’s amazing. You know, I got to tell you, the mariny here, Sebastian, my father, for a different reason, used to hold up the phone and he used to tell me, don’t ever talk on this phone because it’s police.

They’re listening to everything that you say. Don’t ever get recorded on a phone. He would tell me that, but obviously not as dramatic or drastic as your dad’s, but we had the same lesson for a different purpose. Wow. Imagine, imagine. Unbelievable. Same. Amazing. All right. I thought I had a story and I’ve been telling it for the past 30 years, but I’m going to be honest with you.

Nothing compares to this. I’ve never had a sit down like this. Totally sincere, totally honest, but what this young man lived through and the fact that he came out on the other side and now is a success story, you know, between what he does as an architect and what he does to help young people. It’s unbelievable. It’s fascinating. I was in awe of the interview just sitting down talking with him and I got to tell you this. This young man had a price on his head, $4 million, because in the Colombian tradition there, you got to kill the son of Pablo Escobar.

That’s just how it goes. The fact that he survived that, the fact that his mother, his mother had to negotiate with the cartels for his life, the fact that they tried to get, you know, into other countries that wouldn’t accept them because of the father. It’s just, it’s unbelievable what this man went through and how he’s come out on the other side. I’m telling you, this is a story for the ages. Understand, Pablo Escobar at one time was the most wanted criminal in the entire world. The entire world. And look, I went through a lot as a kid, but it doesn’t compare with what this man went through.

And I don’t mind saying it. You know, for me to sit here and be in awe of somebody’s story, it says a lot, because I’ve gone through some stuff myself. And I’m telling you, I’m just fascinated by this and I’m fascinated with how he’s come out of it all and what he’s done, you know, since coming out of it all, what his plans are for the future. I mean, he’s written a number of books. He wants to help kids. He and I may be doing something together. I’m going to save that for another time. But I’m telling you, I hope you enjoyed this.

And I hope you see, you know what, so many of us have gone through difficult situations and we wonder, can we ever come out on the other side of it? And a lot of people have, you know, looked at me for inspiration because of what I’ve been through and what I’ve been able to accomplish in my life and come out on the other side. And for me, it’s all about, you know, God having a different plan and a purpose for my life. But look at what Sebastian has gone through and how he’s managed to come out on the other side.

And you know, another thing here, and I know this is tough. You know, you look at his father and what he did, you know, look, murder, you name it. I mean, this guy did it, but he was also a loving father. And I’ve said this so many times, you know, kids want to love their parents. Parents have to give their kids a real reason for them not to love them. And even though Pablo Escobar was what he was on the outside in the house, he was a good father. Same with my dad. I love my dad, despite the fact that the FBI said he was responsible for 40 murders.

I don’t know if that’s true or not, but this is what I heard throughout my whole life. I seen him on trial for murder, but I love my father because he was a good father. What could I say? We had our differences in the end, just like Pablo had his differences with his son. We saw that. But listen to what he said at the end. This was, to me, unbelievable. The telephone was something that they were able to be tracked on, the cell phone. Because they’ll find out where we are. Remember what he said. They used to buy a house just to be able to stay there at night.

And they had to leave the next morning because between the government and their enemies, they were constantly being hunted. But in the very end, what did Pablo Escobar do? He stayed on the phone so that they would be able to track his whereabouts so he could end his life so his family could go on with their lives. He basically committed suicide. He gave me the chills when I heard that. So yeah, he was who he was on the outside, and for all intents and purposes, maybe he was that monster. But not in his home. Such a hard dynamic for people to understand.

Believe me, I get it. I totally get it. Hard dynamic. But man, I can relate to this young man. Now he’s, you know, in his 40s, younger than me. And I could still be his dad. But I can certainly relate to what he went through. I think it’s an absolutely fascinating story. It’s an inspirational story. And you should pay attention to this. And all those of you that are struggling with how do I get out of this situation that I’m in? Look at him for, you know, for encouragement. Believe me, because it is a story of encouragement.

I hope you enjoyed this. I hope to be entering into a relationship with this man just because I just love what he’s been able to do with himself. I really mean that. And I take my hat off to his mom, what she went through. Think about it. I mean, she was negotiating with the cartels for her son’s life. And then they went around to different countries and couldn’t even get in because of who the father was, you know, sins of the father. He wrote the book, Sins of the Father. Yes, they do fall on the family.

Yes, it’s biblical. It does happen. But man, you know what, Sebastian, I really hand it to you, my friend, for everything that you’ve accomplished and everything you want to accomplish.
