This is Dabu 7. A heads up for folks that may be in the Knoxville area. We have a region along Western Avenue in Lonsdale that’s being evacuated after the Knoxville Fire Department has responded to reports of a box there with possible explosives in it. They say they’re doing this out of an abundance of caution. They don’t know exactly what they’re dealing with, but they’re assuming that it’s an explosive device. They got calls around a little after 4. They got to the area and they started alerting people to evacuate. They say that if you’re not inside this area surrounding the 2700 block of Western Avenue, you don’t need to evacuate.

They expect this to be a long-term investigation. It’s ongoing right now, and initially they responded to a hazmat situation along Western Avenue. This is between Texas and Massachusetts Avenues. They say that the box was possibly smoking, and when the department got there on the scene and their bomb techs, they were treating this as if it was a bomb. So as of right now, that’s all we know. They’re going to update as soon as they know more. So I’ll update on X as I get that information, but just a heads up. They’ve got things shut down in this region and potential explosive device there in this box.
