I said, what? Now, here’s the backstory. We went over to the casket, and she opened it up, and he was unrecognizable. And it got me sick at that moment, because I love this guy was unrecognizable. I mean, that’s how brutally he was murdered. If somebody said to me, michael, what’s the most sensational mob hit ever, ever, in your view? I would have to say, Hey, everyone, welcome to another sit down with Michael Franzese. Hope everybody is doing well. All is very good, very blessed on this end. As always, my friends, I give all the praise, honor, glory, and Thanksgiving to our God, Jesus Christ for all of that.
And before I start, just quickly, I want to thank all of you for the great comments I’m getting about my grandmother’s meatballs. People are loving them. You know, I’m getting so many great comments. People are, hey, Michael, I went through your recipe. It was great. We had him. Even my pastor called. Everybody’s calling me on the I on the meatball recipe. I’m glad you enjoyed it. We just recently dropped the spaghetti pomodoro, and people are loving that also. Michael, do more of these. We love them. We’re great. And I got to tell you, something happened, very important.
I went to pick up my prescription at drugstore, silly little thing that I needed. And I get out of the car, and some woman about my age, maybe a little younger, comes up to me. And she said, I love your grandmother’s meatballs. I said, oh, thank you very much. She said, I watch you all the time. She said, and I have to thank you. And I said, why is that? She said, because there’s so much negativity going on in the world. There’s so much of it on YouTube. And to bring something like that where people can enjoy and just relax and maybe have a good meal, we really.
I really appreciate it. Please keep doing it. You know, it really made me think it’s true. People, there’s so much negativity going on. We need a break. So if I can give you a break with, you know, a little cooking show that I do and give you a recipe. And by the way, I got a million of them. I, I have to say, I never was in, in need of good food. You know, growing up, my, my grandmother was a great cook, my grandfather was a good cook, my mother was terrific. Even my father, who didn’t cook that often, said he was one of the best cooks around.
You know, that was my dad. You know, he did everything the best. No lack of, of great recipes, I can tell you that. So we’re going to continue it. Why? Because you like it. And we’re here to please you, to give you information, to entertain you. That’s what it’s all about, you know, and, and hopefully we continue to do that, bring you good content. You’ll enjoy it. So, but I also have to get into today’s topic, and that is, it’s mob related because many of you asked me, Michael, we love the mob stories. We really do.
While I was cooking the meatballs, I was answering questions about the mob. And you love it. We’re going to continue to do that. Whatever makes you happy. We’re going to continue to do. And when I’ve been asked, you know, all these mob hits, Michael, what is it about, you know, what were the sensational hits? What do you think were the, you know, the most important? What, what hits had the most impact? When I say hits, obviously murders on, on your life. And I said, okay, let me do, you know, a video on it. Let me sit down and talk about it.
And they’re in no particular order. And look, I can go on all night if you had the time, and all night with mob hits, obviously that occurred over the years. For the hundred or so years that Cosa Nostra Mafia is operating in this country, there’s been many, unfortunately, the ugly side of that life. So please understand, I’m not saying this to glorify. It’s part of history and it’s part of what people are interested in. So I’m going to tell you about it because I have knowledge. It’s where I came from. I understand the life. So please take it in that context.
For those of you that enjoy it, I’m giving it to you today. If somebody said to me, michael, what’s the most sensational mob hit ever, ever, in your view? I would have to say it was a St. Valentine’s Day massacre. Think about It. It was pulled off by Capone. He ordered it. He never was, you know, arrested or indicted or charged with it, you know, but obviously, we all know it was on his orders. And just think of the setting. I mean, he gets seven gangsters, mobsters, and he gets them in a warehouse, and he has his men dressed up as cops, and he goes into that warehouse with the men and.
And he has the cops line them all up against the wall like they’re going to search them, pat. Pat them down, and then charge them with something. And the guys are saying, you know, stop wasting our time. Let’s stop. And what do they do? They all have their machine guns and they kill all seven of them. Seven at one time. I don’t think was ever an assassination in our mob’s life like that. Seven at one time. Sensational. It was huge. We. We didn’t have social media or any of that, you know, but the amount of media that it got.
They made movies about it. St. Valentine’s Mass, tons of stuff. Imagine if that would have happened today. Forget it. It would be everywhere, all the time, constantly. So that was a huge, sensational murder. No question about it. Let’s continue. The world doesn’t need another wine. It really needs a reason to raise a glass again. A reason that’s real, a reason that means something. Because most people, they drink to forget. We drink to remember where we came from, what we stand for, and who we still fight to become. We don’t follow trends. We break them. Our bottles don’t look like anyone else’s, because our story, it isn’t like anyone else’s.
It’s about freedom, about redemption, about family. That’s what’s inside every bottle. So to the ones who think different, who live different, who drink different, salud. I’d have to say the next for me would be Paul Castellano. You all know what happened. I don’t have to get into it in, in depth, but Paul Castellano was summoned or he had a meeting. He was the boss of the Gambino family. He’s got a meeting where? At Spark Steakhouse in New York. Tommy Bilotti, his chauffeur, his guard, you know, drives him to the meeting. It’s in the evening, he gets out of his car, and a couple of guys walking down the street, dressed whatever they were, and boom, they opened fire on him.
And Tommy Bilotti, we’ve seen that picture a million times. As he’s getting out of his car, boom, he goes down. And then they go after Bilotti who comes to try to help, you know, his boss. But no, they killed him too. Sensational. Obviously, we know what happened. It was pulled off by John Gotti. John Gotti was charged with it, went to prison for it, died in prison for it. Sammy Gravano has spoken about it. We know all the details. Why did it happen? Well, it happened because allegedly, Paul Castellano found out that John Gotti’s crew was dealing in drugs.
Didn’t want that. It was forbidden at the time. I know people could. Michael, come on. No, it was forbidden at the time. We weren’t supposed to be doing it. We were told straight out, you’re going to die if you get involved in drugs. And so allegedly, Paul Castellano was ready to take him out. John Gotti said, no, I’m going first. And so he did that because he wanted to save, you know, his crew. Sensational hit. Had a huge impact on the street. I remember that. It was December 16, 1985. I was locked up three days later, December 19, 1985, on that big racketeering case.
And it was talked about in prison. Outside of the prison, everybody knew about, as a matter of fact, you know, people were upset because it wasn’t a sanctioned hit. John Gotti did not go to the commission and say, hey, I want permission to do this. He did it on his own. He pulled it off. My boss, Carmine Persico, very upset at that time. I was in jail with him. Very upset. A lot of people, very upset. Didn’t talk well about it. The Chin put a hit out on Gotti at that time, you know, what happened? Boom.
Car exploded outside. It was meant for Gotti, but Gotti escaped. Somebody else got killed at that. That time, you know, who, you know. So it wasn’t a sanctioned hit. He was in a lot of trouble for it. Again, we’ve seen movies about it and everything else, and we. People talk about it, and it’s going to be talked about for. For as long as we’re around. I can tell you that that’s not going away anytime soon. So sensational, yes. Impact on the life. Absolutely. No doubt they came after Gotti harder after that. No doubt about it. Next.
You know, for me, Joe Colombo, I was there that day. I was only a few steps away from him when the attempted assassination took place. The perpetrator, Jerome Johnson, he was killed that same time. They found out. I mean, they seen him pull the trigger, and then, boom, he went down. But it was done in front of 50,000 people. We were at Columbus Square, Columbus Circle, I should say 50,000 people. I just walked away from him. He gave me some brochures to hand out at. In. In Central park area. And boom. I’ll never forget. Joey’s been hit.
Joey’s been hit. Boom, he goes down. That was a boss. He was the boss, well known out there. The boss of the family. Boom. Attempted assassination in front of 50,000 people. Sensational. You bet. Did it have an impact? Sure. Persico took over after that. My boss, you know, so a lot of things happen. And that was. That was a sensational hit. Joey lingered for seven years. He didn’t die on the spot, but eventually, you know, he was in a coma for most of the time. But sensational hit, no question about it. Another one that we’ve seen this image God knows how many times.
Albert Anastasia, we know what happened there. Genovese guy, right? Upset with him. Boom. He’s in a barber chair at the Park Sheridan Hotel. I think he’s in the barber’s chair and he was getting a shave. Two guys walk in. Boom. He jumps out of the chair. He tries to shoot back. Nose bone. You seen that image of him on the floor, you know, sensational hit. Albert Anastasia was big at that time. So you know the whole story. I’m not going to get into it all with Anastasia, but he was an important figure, part of Murder Incorporated, working for Luciano with a lot of the Jewish guys.
You know, the whole story behind Murder, Inc. And boom, they took him out. Sensational hit. We’ve seen it so many times in, you know, in. In the media. They’ve talked about it forever. So another very sensational hit. Another one. I gotta go back. Bugsy Siegel. How many times have you seen that replayed? Huge. We’ve seen a movie about it. Warren Beatty was in it. He played Bugsy Siegel. Why did it allegedly went down? Because he was stealing money from the casino that he was building, the Flamingo in Vegas. So what happened? You know, you saw the movies or you know the story, you know, Luciano was upset with him.
The people in New York were upset with him because they gave him money for the casino. And they say he was skimming off the top. Whether that was true or not, I don’t know. You know the movie? I don’t know enough about it to say he was. Who knows? All right, but you saw what happened. He was in his home in Beverly Hills. Boom. A shooter through the window and shot his eye out. He was dead. Sensational. We still. We’ve seen movies about it. We was all over the Media, the same thing. If it was today, forget it.
Would be all over social media, non stop, no question about it. The same way all of these hits I’m describing were, forget it. It would be all over the place. These are sensational mob hits. Very, very impactful, you know, and they’ve never solved the murder in Bugsy Siegel. Now I had a friend of mine, Tony Lee, who was a second in command of Beverly Hills Police Department, he told me it’s still a cold case. They’ve never solved that murder, nor will they ever. It’s too long. Now that happened back In, I think, 1948, something like that.
So. And I even saw, you know, the license, his, his driver’s license, because they took that and they have it, you know, in the Beverly Hills Police Department. But sensational hit. Had a huge impact. You know what happened? They took over the Flamingo guys. That, after that and Bugsy Siegel’s, you know, his vision was correct because they built Vegas. So, you know, but you can’t skim in that life. And if people think you are, forget it. And he was a hothead to begin with, so they took him out. Let me tell you something. When people don’t want to be involved with you or don’t want to worry about you in that life, they take you out.
That’s it. You don’t want to be a loose can. You don’t want to be somebody that people are worried about because they’re going to take you out. They don’t have to deal with it. They don’t want to worry about if you’re going to do something crazy, take you out. They’ll give you a chance. They’ll give you 1, 2, 3, then they say, you know what? We got enough. Take them out. Happened with Roy demeo. Same thing. Loose cannon killing too many people. Unauthorized by boom. Take him out. Was that a sensational murder? I mean, they found him in the trunk of his car.
He was a well known guy because of some of the things he did, but he wasn’t a boss, you know, but it was big time discovery of Roy DeMaio because of the reputation he had and because of the things he did. So I would put that in something that pretty well known. And another one that you may not be that familiar with, but it comes to mind for me because I got a lot of information out of it because of who my cellmate was in Terminal Island, Osario Gambino. And I’m talking about Angelo Bruno, who was the boss of the Philadelphia family at the time.
And there was some, I don’t know, he got. There was something over a gambling issue that people were upset with him and his consulari guy by the name of Capanegra at the time, I believe killed him and. Or at least set it up. And it was brutal. I mean, he was in front of his home, sitting in his car, and they shotgunned him. And he was dead on the spot. And later on, his consigliere, that wasn’t a sanctioned hit by the commission. And as a result, Caponigo, the guy that set it up, they murdered him a couple of.
Not too long after that. You can’t kill a boss without having permission from the commission or at least putting them on notice. Can’t do it. I mean, Gotti did it. He paid the price. Later on, he didn’t get murdered. They tried to Chin tried to kill him, but didn’t work. And, and this same situation here, you can’t do it. Carmine Galante, I’m sure you’ve seen that he was sitting in a restaurant in Brooklyn, you know, I have Mary’s or something it was called. And he’s got a cigar in his mouth. Two guys get out of a car, they open fire on him.
Boom, he goes down, the cigar is still sticking out of his mouth. Big deal. Because he was the boss of the Bonanno family at the time. I don’t know the particulars after that. He was not on the good. On good terms with a lot of people. He was kind of a really arrogant guy. I don’t know all of the, you know, there’s a lot been said about it. But was the murder sensational? Yes. Made big, big, big, big headlines at the time. Another big one. So Carmine Galante, another boss that went down. You know, usually in that life, well, there’s no elections.
When they want to eliminate the boss, they eliminate the boss unless they can talk to him and tell him to get lost. They did that with Joe Bonanno because they found out what he had did. He double crossed people. But because he was a boss, they gave him that respect. They could have killed him. He ran away for a while, he was gone, but they told him, come back, we’re not going to kill you, but get out of town. You have no more authority here. You have no more respect. Get out. And that’s when he left and moved to Arizona and set up shop there.
But he didn’t have anywhere near the juice he had before. Had he not left, they would have killed him, no doubt about it. Because of what he did. You can’t kill a boss and not suffer some consequences. All right, this is another one that was made famous in the movie Casino and others. Tony Spilotro, you know the story there, the Joe Pesci character. You know, you saw the movie, and it played out fairly. Fairly accurate to that, except that when he was taken out in a brutal way, it wasn’t in Vegas, it was in a cornfield in Chicago, outside of Chicago, Illinois.
But a brutal murder that I know him and his brother, they did kill his brother, too. And of course, again, you saw the movie Casino, and you’ve heard of Tony Spilotro, I’m sure. You know, it’s also in the Mob museum in Vegas. Another pretty sensational hit, I’d have to say that. And again, if they memorialize it in a movie, it had an impact. But he wasn’t. He wasn’t a boss, that’s for sure. So. But it was. It was a big deal at the time. It really was. All right, getting. Getting near the end on this one that I haven’t mentioned.
And this wasn’t a Mafia thing, but was Dutch Schultz. That was a big deal. You had a big gang back then. And he was told to relax on certain things that he wanted to do, and he refused to do it, and they took him out. You know, he wanted to kill some cops. I think he wanted to kill Dewey at the time. Dewey was a prosecutor who actually put Luciano away, and I think he wanted to kill him. He put a hit out on him, if I’m not mistaken. And people were upset with him and told him, you can’t be doing that.
And he didn’t listen. He was pursuing it, and boom, they took him out. It was a big deal because he had a lot of weight at the time. I mean, he wasn’t La Cosa Nostra. He wasn’t Mafia, but he had a lot of influence. He had a big gang at the time, so they took him out. Big deal. You heard a lot about it back then. So, look, I can go on and on, but I’m trying to think. You know, I have to say this, people, and I’ve said it. Murder is ugly. It’s very, very ugly.
I’ll never forget. I was impacted by the Joe Colombo hit because he was somebody close to me. I was impacted by it. People have said to me, michael, you weren’t a made guy at that time. How did that not dissuade you from getting involved in the life? And I don’t know, you know, because I grew up with my Father. I knew about the life, but it was. It had an effect on me at that time. Another time was a good friend of mine. His name was Artie, I’ll leave it at that. A Jewish guy, tough guy.
They called him Artie the animal. And he was murdered. And I’ll never forget. I walked into the funeral parlor. I was young, I was only like 19 years old. And I walked into a funeral parlor. And his sister came up to me because I was very close with the family. I used to have Seder dinner with them all the time. My father loved this guy and I loved him. He was like a second dad to me in times when my father was away. And she said to me, look at what these animals did to my brother.
And he came and this was a Jewish wake. And we went over to the casket and she opened it up and he was unrecognizable. And it got me sick at that moment, because I love this guy was unrecognizable. I mean, that’s how brutally he was murdered. And, you know, I just realized that murder is really ugly. And it’s a part of that life. And all of these murders that I’m talking about, that’s a part of the life. There’s no getting away from it. And I don’t try to sugarcoat or, you know, put a nice spin on it, because there isn’t one to be put on.
And, you know, during my time in that life, I’ve seen guys come and go, you know, I unfortunate, but I have, and I’m going to leave it at that. And murder is very ugly. I would never glorify that life. People. And I know some people will make comments, oh, you’re still talking about that life. And it was my life. And unfortunately, people want to hear about it. They’re intrigued with it. Or maybe it’s fortunate for me because it built a platform for me. I don’t know, whatever way you want to look at it. You know, the most fortunate thing is that I survived it and I got out of it.
And I was able to bring my life into a different direction thanks to God, having a different plan and a purpose for my life. But murder is ugly, and all these mob hits should not be glorified. Now, Hollywood is going to do what they do with it. Law enforcement is going to do what they do with it, obviously. But it’s not something that should be glorified in any way, shape or form. And if anything, it should make you want to run away from that life. You know, it was another incident. I. I think I’ve told this before, but I was driving another maid guy home, not going to mention his name in Brooklyn.
And he was a maid. Guy was older than me. And we got in front of his house, I was dropping him off and he said, will you wait a minute? Don’t leave yet. And I said, okay. I figured maybe he didn’t have his key. So he went up to his door and he opened the door and he was looking in the house. And I’m saying, okay, what’s going on? Well, he closes the door and comes back and he gets in the car. And I said, what happened? He said, well, I can’t go in the house. There’s nobody home.
I said, what do you mean you can’t go in the house? You open the door, it’s your house. He said, but I can’t go in. I said, why not? Didn’t make sense to me, obviously. And he said, because the ghost of my father haunts me. I said, what? Now, here’s the backstory. He murdered his father. His father was a maid guy, and his father was doing something that he shouldn’t have done. I’m going to leave it at that. And his sons got the contract there. Two of them, two made guys. Sons with two made guys, and they killed the father.
And he said, ever since that day, the ghost of my father was. Haunts me. I can’t be in my own house alone. You wouldn’t go in the house? He said, my wife or somebody’s not home. I don’t go in my house. Sad. That’s part of the life. That’s the ugly part of the life. People. There’s other ugly things, but that’s the ugliest, the murder part of it. So I want to be clear when I’m telling you these stories, because I know people ask. I get hit up all the time. So I built this platform originally by talking about mob stuff.
Not necessarily murders, but mob stuff. Because I had a lot of stories. I spent a lot of time in that life. I was a son of Sonny Francis. A lot of stuff. It’s ugly. It really is. And that’s why now I tell these young guys and people inside the prison that I talk to can’t be involved in that life. It’s a dead end street for you and your family. Your family’s going to suffer. You’re going to bring a lot of headaches into your life that you don’t need. Get away from it. So that’s it for today.
I want to hear your comments. I always want to hear, Michael, I want more of this. Or Michael, I don’t need to hear this anymore more. Please tell me. It helps me, you know, to bring content to you, because again, I’m doing this for you. You know, if you don’t enjoy what I’m doing, what’s the sense of doing it? But fortunately, I get a lot of satisfaction out of the great comments that I get most of the time. Look, sometimes we’ll do an interview. Ah, it’s not really for me. We don’t get as many views on it because it wasn’t the right kind of content or you weren’t that interested.
I get it. No problem. But, you know, we got a lot of things planned, so we love to hear from you. I’d love to hear your comments. You know, try to be respectful. I know some people, I got to tell you, some people, I have to tell you this, and I’ve said this. Social media in many ways exposed the lunacy in some people because some of the comments you get, you don’t even know where they’re coming from, you know, and I don’t read them all. Obviously, we get too many, but I don’t even know where they’re coming from.
But we appreciate, you know, the comments from people that, you know, just want to say whatever they say, but at least we understand or make sense. So please, you know, have them come in and. And yes, we’ll continue on the. On the. The cooking shows. My wine. Sorry, people, but I’m enjoying it. I don’t know if you want this guy, but this glass has my. It’s got the Francis wine logo and everything on it. So it’s a nice wine glass. They made it up for me. I have. I have one. We don’t have a whole bunch of them, so we’re not selling them.
But I am selling the wine. This is my favorite one. This is the BlackBerry wine. It’s delicious. I always say salute. That’s it for today, my friends. How do I always leave you? Very same way. Not going to change. Be safe. I really mean that. Be healthy. Of course. You know, my whole speech on that, I’m not going to give it to you now. Be safe. Be healthy. And yes, God bless each and every one of you. Your family, your friends, your neighborhoods, your communities. God bless America. God, this. You need to bless this country more than you have blessed it so far, because we have to get rid of all of this anger, this division, this hatred that’s going on.
It’s so prominent on social media. That’s maybe why I’m talking, because I see so much of it and I wish it would stop. I really mean that. So God bless each and every one of you. And yes, my friends, I’ll see you next time. So stay tuned. Sa.
