Recap: Tornadoes ravage Chicago area, leave thousands without power
On Wednesday, multiple tornadoes tore through parts of the Chicago area, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. “The sound was deafening, the wind was relentless, and everything was crumbling before our eyes,” shared Gary Malone, a long-time resident of Indian Head Park. “This is the worst devastation I’ve witnessed in my 40 years here.”
In a neighborhood off Hillsdale Road in Countryside, the aftermath of a powerful storm left a trail of destruction. Trees and landscaping suffered tremendous damage, and some homes were not spared. While most of the homes escaped major damage, some suffered broken windows, damaged roofs, or torn siding. Amidst the chaos, stories of resilience emerged, like the 95-year-old woman who was home alone during the storm. Debbie Taylor, her daughter, reassured everyone that her mother was alright, thanks to the comforting presence of caring neighbors. Unfortunately, four homes were deemed uninhabitable by the Countryside police. In the aftermath of the storm, the community faces the daunting task of repairing broken windows and rebuilding. Yet, amidst the chaos, there is a silver lining – no reports of injuries.
