Well, we’re only talking about a blackout here. A blackout is not nothing. It could be something, be a symptom of something bigger, like terrorism or a bomb, like the one you said your son would take through.
I think that you should stay here tonight. It could be something that works with CrowdStrike and Microsoft. With the trouble that Microsoft is facing today, impacting millions of people here in Michigan and around the world, a lot of people rely on Windows, and it was an update from their cybersecurity platform, not a cyber attack, that is causing all of the troubles. But we begin with that massive Microsoft technology outage, cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike. CrowdStrike says it identified a critical problem in its software and is working to fix the issue. Around the world, computer users were greeted with an error screen that some people have referred to as the Windows blue screen of death.
The outage affected government entities and news organizations, as well as almost every industry across the globe, including banks, airports, health care providers and retailers. Global computer shutdowns, we’re talking everything from airports and 911 centers to hospitals. NBC’s Tom Costello takes a closer look at the impact. It is a massive computer outage affecting all corners of the globe. Which could well be the biggest outage the world has seen. Not a cyber attack, but a software update gone bad, affecting Microsoft Windows computers using CrowdStrike cybersecurity software.
