Known as the triple E virus, the mosquito-borne illness was just reported in Massachusetts, the state’s first human case since 2020. The national desk, Jeff Harris, joining us. Jeff, Massachusetts isn’t alone. Other states are also reporting cases as well. So far this year, Didi, there have been three human cases of triple E reported in Massachusetts, also in New Jersey, the third being in Vermont. The CDC says most people infected have no symptoms, but others could develop severe neurological problems. The symptoms are fever, severe headache, trouble focusing, and it can cause also encephalitis, which is even more severe, which is fever, confusion, acting abnormally.
It can also cause myelitis, which is an infection of the spinal cord, which can cause paralysis. [tr:trw].
