Currently, we are seeing in the UK a nation that used to say they believed in freedom of speech and expression are arresting people for what they say in their posts. In the last few minutes, a 28-year-old man has been jailed for 20 months in Leeds for stirring up religious hatred online during the riots across the country over the last weeks. And Becky, this all relates to posts by Jordan Parler on Facebook. Essentially, he was telling people on Facebook to go and attack a hotel in Leeds housing asylum seekers. He didn’t actually take part in that action.

We understand he was at home with an injured foot, but it was his messages online that were seen by his friends and other people they shared those posts with that were at the root of his sentencing today. It’s now public knowledge, as if it wasn’t obvious enough, that government agencies in the United States and around the world were pressuring social media companies to censor opinions and speech about the 19 and vaccinations. Federal court has ruled against the Biden administration for pressuring social media companies to censor speech about COVID policies. Now, the case is Missouri versus Biden.

It pits the attorneys general of Missouri and Louisiana, civil liberties groups, and several censored social media accounts against the White House, the CDC, and other government agencies. The Bible gives us a few examples of when those types of systems are implemented into the world and how Christians are supposed to act and speak. In the book of Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were told to bow down and worship an idol, something that was clearly against what they believed in, and that they would even be killed thrown into a furnace of fire if they did not obey that regulation.

But in Daniel 3, 16 through 18, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego responded to this wrong regulation and showed how these followers of God rejected what was wrong and did what was right. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O King. But if not, let it be known to you, O King, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.

The church has dealt with people trying to censor our speech since the beginning of time, but Peter and the other apostles answered and said, we ought to obey God rather than men. Sicknesses and diseases are real, but what’s really concerning above those is seeing these different systems in the world rising up where it’s going to force people to not travel, buy, sell, unless they get the mark of the beast, eventually leading to a world where Christians and those who reject the beast and follow Jesus Christ in the Bible will be beheaded for their faith. It’s very clear to see that the next pandemic is something everybody’s talking about, and it’s very easy to implement these beast type systems in when so many people in the world are scared and willing to comply.

The next pandemic is coming, will we be ready? Who member states are struggling to agree to terms of the first global treaty to deal with the threat of another C-19? While these types of subjects can sometimes be scary for people, there’s no reason to be scared. Jesus told us when you see these signs that He prophesied would happen starting to take place, lift up your heads, your redemption draws near. And as we use our free speech to stand up for what is true and what is right and what is just, may we ultimately use it to speak the truth about Jesus Christ, proclaim the gospel to the lost, to bring as many people into the harvest before Jesus returns, and that we may speak the truth in love.
