The significance of the Mount of Olives throughout Scripture is incredible. It’s actually at the center of Bible prophecy with mind blowing connections that are happening this very day. It’s also the location where Jesus Christ himself returns during his second Coming. Look at how all of this fits together in this video. But first, let’s look at some of the history of the Mount of Olives that built up its prophetic significance and the importance of that location.
The Mount of Olives is a multisummit limestone ridge just east of the old city of Jerusalem and separated from the Kidron Valley. It’s frequently mentioned in the Bible and other religious literature, and it’s holy to Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The Mount of Olives is first mentioned in two Samuel 15, when David is fleeing his son Absalon. And it has an extremely important significance from that very moment even to the final days of Earth and Jesus’s second Coming.
When Jesus first rode into Jerusalem on a donkey as King, he came from the Mount of Olives. In Matthew 21, verses one through eleven tells us of that story. I’ll read verses one through five. As they approached Jerusalem and came to Beth Page on the Mount of Olives, jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there with her colt by her.
Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them and he will send them right away. This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet say to daughter Zion, see, your King comes to you gentle and riding on a donkey and on a colt, the fowl of a donkey. The Mount of Olives is also the location where Jesus ascended into heaven, and all his disciples watched him leave the earth.
In Acts one nine through twelve, it tells us of this. After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. Men of Galilee, they said. Why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus who has been taken from you into heaven will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.
Then the apostles return to Jerusalem from the hill called the Mount of Olives, a Sabbath day’s walk from the city. There’s an amazing connection from Jesus ascending into heaven from the Mount of Olives at that location that ties exactly into end times prophecy, a story only God could write. But first, let’s look at some connections that are happening right now, this very day on the Mount of Olives.
This next connection to the Mount of Olives that we’re seeing right now is truly mind blowing, and something that I realized just the other day, Jesus gave the Olivet discourse the most well known end times passage at the Mount of Olives, and it connects to exactly what’s happening right now. In preparation to the Third Temple at the Mount of Olives as well, maybe even near the exact same site.
In Matthew 24, Jesus gives us the most well known end times passage known as the Olivet discourse. In verse three it says as Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. Tell us, they said, when will this happen? And what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age? Jesus then goes on to give one of the most significant end times teachings about wars, rumors of wars and everything that’s coming in the last days again that took place right there on the Mount of Olives.
And if we look at what’s happening this very day with the Jewish people who don’t accept Jesus as the Messiah, when a false Messiah, either the false prophet or the Antichrist comes, everybody on the earth will be deceived by that person, except people who accept Jesus as the Messiah. And the Jewish people this very day are planning to do a ceremony to build the Third Temple. The Third Temple that the Antichrist will stand in and will cause the abomination of desolation.
And they’re going to do that ceremony on the Mount of Olives. In Matthew 20 415, Jesus standing on the Mount of Olives gave us a warning that this would come. So when you see standing in the holy place, the abomination that causes desolation spoken of through the prophet Daniel, let the reader understand. And then here, almost 2000 years later, the Jewish people plan to do a temple ceremony for that Third Temple on the Mount of Olives.
Who knows, maybe even right near the exact location where Jesus gave that warning. According to those working on the project, the ceremony of the Red Heifer needs to be performed on the Mount of Olives and in a place that would have looked directly into where the temple stood. The land I’m standing on, bought twelve years ago, fits both of those standards. It had to be exactly at the front of place that the priest that made this ceremony can see the holy of the holy place.
The final end times battle, the battle of Armageddon, takes place in northern Israel, and when the armies gather there together to actually fight against God, jesus comes back and lands on the Mount of Olives to defeat them in that battle. Revelation 1616 tells us of this day. Then the demons brought the kings together in the place called Armageddon. In the Hebrew language, the Antichrist, the false prophet and all the enemies of God gather here together to try to fight God.
And when that happens, Jesus comes back, lands on the Mount of Olives and defeats all of them once and for all. Zechariah 14 three through four. Then the Lord will go out and fight against those nations as he fights on a day of battle. On that day, his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem. And the Mount of Olives will split in two from east to west, forming a great valley with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south.
This will be an incredible moment. Finally, the moment when evil is rid and gotten rid of once and for all by Jesus Christ. And that happens right by the Mount of Olives. That’s truly incredible significance all throughout history. Here’s two passages from Revelation that talk more of that day. I saw heaven standing open, and there before me was a white horse whose rider is called Faithful and True.
With justice he judges and wages war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. He is dressed in a robe dripped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses, dressed in fine linen, white and clean. Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations.
He will rule them with an iron scepter. He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written king of Kings and Lord of Lords. I looked and there before me was a white cloud. And seated on the cloud was one like a son of man with a crown of gold on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand.
Then another angel came out of the temple and called in a loud voice to him who was sitting on the cloud, take your sickle and reap, because the time to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is ripe. So he who was seated on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth, and the earth was harvested. This is the moment at the Mount of Olives where Jesus Christ comes back as the line of Judah defeats the Antichrist.
The false prophet Satan is thrown into the pit for a thousand years, all evil is done away. With this begins the 1000 year millennial reign of Jesus Christ as king over all. And it all takes place right there at the Mount of Olives, the same location of Jesus’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem, riding a donkey, right where he prophesied all of this would happen. Told to us in Matthew 24.
The same place where he ascended into heaven in Acts one, and where he’s returning to reign and set all things right. Told to us in Zechariah 14, Revelation 19 and Revelation 14. Prophecy proves the Bible to be true. All of this is too great to just be some story that people made up thousands of years ago and brought together into some book or some story into the Bible.
The Bible is real. Prophecy proves it. Jesus is coming back and he’s coming to the Mount of Olives to fulfill all prophecy and set everything right. Make sure you’re on the right side of that story. Give your heart and life to Jesus today and live for him according to his word. Read the Bible. It teaches us how to live this life in accordance with God and his ways.
It guides us in this life, gives us peace, and leads us to the perfect eternal life with God in heaven. And the only way to that eternal life in heaven with God is by accepting Jesus Christ, God’s son, as Lord and Savior and what he did on the cross and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Read the gospel. Live for God. Do what the Bible says. You’ll have peace in this life and be guided into eternal life with God forever, in perfect peace.
I pray you all are well. I pray you’ll do that. If you haven’t, give God a shot. Give Jesus a chance. Thanks for watching and God bless. .
