Westeros’ Old Gods resemble an indigenous belief system where the dead are returned to the earth. This reflects ancient practices of connecting with the natural world and allowing bodies to decompose naturally, a stark contrast to the dominant religions that promote resurrection or eternal life in the heavens or hells. The Old Gods’ cryptic connection to ghosts and the afterlife hints at humanity’s deeper understanding of the soul’s journey.
Meanwhile, the Drowned God worshipped by the Ironborn clearly parallels the Norse belief in Valhalla. Both are underworld deities, with the Drowned God offering a final resting place in a watery grave. This is similar to other ancient belief systems that revere water as a gateway to the afterlife. The practice of the “kiss of life,” where followers of the Drowned God are temporarily drowned and revived, serves as a representation of the manipulation of life and death—a theme repeated across many ancient mythologies and religious systems.
R’hllor and the Lord of Light: Lucifer and the Battle Between Light and Dark
The Lord of Light, or R’hllor, is the most striking depiction of Lucifer, the Light Bearer. His followers believe that life is light and that he is the eternal source of warmth and creation. But beneath this is a darker truth. R’hllor represents the fallen one—the bringer of false light that deceives humanity into worshipping a false god. His priests practice resurrection, not as a means of salvation but as a way to keep souls trapped in the physical realm, feeding the endless cycle of suffering and reincarnation.
The red priests, who breathe fire into the dead to bring them back to life, mirror the manipulation of energy that these Archons use to maintain control over humanity. These rituals are part of the same dark magic used to bind human souls to the material world, keeping us from reaching higher spiritual realms.

Throughout Game of Thrones, the afterlife is a recurring theme, but the truth is deliberately obscured. Characters like Jon Snow and Beric Dondarrion return from the dead, yet they have no memory of what lies beyond. This isn’t just a storytelling device—it’s a reflection of our reality. The ruling elite wants us to believe that death is final and that there is nothing beyond the physical. This is the lie that has been perpetuated throughout history to keep humanity in fear and submission.
In reality, as the Gnostics taught, death is just a transition—a chance to break free from the control of the Archons and ascend to higher planes of existence. But only if we understand the truth and break free from the system of control that has been placed over us.
